Build and develop your own CNC machine! This 3-Axis Machine will appeal to hobbyists and educational establishments alike. The design uses low cost but effective materials to achieve a standard drilling accuracy of down to 0.1mm (4 thou). All woodwork components are ready cut for accurate assembly and each of the 3axes is driven by a powerful 200 steps/rev 12VDC stepper motor with tension cord for backlash free operation. The design has been developed to require minimal alignment during construction and uses limit switches on each axis for set-up and over-travel protection. Includes two software controlled 10A relays for drill control etc. Shipped with 3 Windows programmes (.exe and VBasic source code provided): PCBDrill, Replay and Plot-It. Processor board is fully built and uses our School Stamp2 allowing the user to develop their own machine programme (the standard programme used in the machine is supplied on diskette) |
Machine features include:
Windows software:
PCBDrill:

Drill pcbs using standard NC (Excellon standard) drill files from your favourite pcb programme:
Accurate drilling is achieved as follows- simply fasten your pcb to the platen using double sided tape or blu-tac; no need for accurate alignment. Load the pcb file and display on screen and select two diametrically opposite holes to act as datum points. Joggle the drill over the first hole using the keyboard, then the second hole. Hit enter and the software calculates the transformation matrix which accurately aligns the proposed hole positions to your board alignment- nothing else required. Software selection options allows for drilling to be suspended whilst waiting for a new drill bit to be inserted or skip if you wish to drill all holes to the same size. We have compared a commercial board with a board drilled on our machine- holding the two boards to the light indicated an extremely good correlation- ie the holes coincided very well!
